Christian coaching is a wonderful way to tackle personal development challenges you have been trying to solve.
According to betterup.com, “Good, expert coaching is designed to empower the individual to find their own answers within themselves. In the coaching partnership, it’s the coachee, not the coach, who sets the goals, defines the playbook, and determines what success looks like. The coach provides committed expertise, bringing insight, perspective, and a growth mindset to the coaching relationship.”
If you feel that there are some areas of life with which you are struggling, coaching could prove valuable for you. Counseling can help with mental health issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, and more. Coaching is more effective when you just need help getting your life in order.
I like to understand the state of your skills, abilities, and knowledge. Then identify potential paths to achieve an outcome. Many times this includes my role of educating, enabling with tools, and empowering toward:
- Unlocking potential
- Enhancing Performance
- Executing Tasks more Effectively
- Improving Culture and or Team Dynamics
Questions to Determine if Coaching is Right For You
- What is your learning edge?
- Where do you want to grow?
- Are there areas of life that just feel like they should be managed yet seem wildly out of control?
- Have you entered a new season of life in your career, education, or as a parent?
What are some areas of coaching?
Some coaches call themselves “life coaches,” and they cover a broad array of topics. Other coaches will be more specific and niche. Having an idea of the areas in which you want to be coached can help you find the best coach for you.
This is just a short list of possible coaching help:
- Nutritionist
- Personal trainer
- Home organization

- Parenting a neurodivergent child
- Co-parenting
- Leadership in your career field
- Budget and financial planning
- Adults living with a neurodivergent condition
- Recovery from addiction

- Discerning your career and education needs
Time Management
One of the most common areas that people need help with is managing their time. This could look like how to be efficient in your office, balance work and life commitments, or navigate the family’s calendar each month.
A coach will take the time to help you identify your priorities and set them in the correct order. They may be able to identify things that distract you and help you create the boundaries you need to complete the required tasks.
Time management is a life skill. If you are a young adult, perhaps in college, learning time management with classes and assignments will prove beneficial in your career and home throughout your life. Fear not if you did not learn young, old dogs can still learn new tricks if they are willing to be taught.
In a world that is constantly rushing from one thing to the next, the ability to allocate your time can eliminate stress from being hurried in your life.
Parenting
While kids may think their parents have all the answers, parents know better. With each stage of parenting comes new challenges. There are some particular situations where a coach can bring valuable insight to your parenting.
If you have a child with a disorder or disability, it can throw a lot of curveballs at you. From IEP meetings to doctors’ visits, there is simply more complexity to raising a child on a spectrum. Coaches and counselors can provide you with resources to help both you and your child be successful in your goals and life.
When your children are in high school the inevitable questions of life afterward can be daunting. Education coaches can prepare you and your child for the gauntlet of tasks you need to be on track before and after high school graduation. From determining career goals, filling out applications, and understanding the financial aid available, a coach is an excellent resource for transitioning out of childhood and into adulthood.
Co-parenting is another situation where a coach could be helpful. Learning how to communicate with your co-parent after divorce and separation is essential to ensuring the emotional and mental well-being of your children. If you and your co-parent have low conflict, but still struggle with parenting, a parenting coach will help you find common ground and work in the best interests of the children.
Health and Wellness
Perhaps every year you make a goal to eat healthily and exercise more. However, without a plan, you crash and burn by January 31. Having a coach (more likely known as a personal trainer/nutritionist) keeps you more accountable toward your goals.
Whether you sign up for group fitness classes or hire a personal trainer, you will go further with the encouragement and support of a coach. Physical fitness is a worthy goal, but best modified and tailored to your needs. Not all bodies are created equal. A coach can tailor a program to your needs and schedule, rather than trying a one-size-fits-all approach.
If you have special dietary restrictions or needs, working with a nutritionist can help you come up with creative and enjoyable food. With their coaching, you can set reasonable and achievable goals. Then you will look back on your year and see far more progress than you ever could have thought possible.
If you have struggled with addiction, a coach can be a good person to keep you accountable for healthy choices. Or you may have dealt with an eating disorder. In this case, a coach can be a voice of reason as you learn how to care for your body’s needs. Caring for your body is both physical and mental. Coaches and counselors can provide valuable support as you overcome addictions, disorders, or even long-term recovery from disease and injury.
Home Organization
It’s no secret that Americans have a lot of stuff. There are whole reality television shows dedicated to organizing and managing stuff. Sometimes, though, it can be helpful to have someone else set up a system that we can follow.
A home organizing coach helps you not just with getting rid of excess, but also personalizes a system that will work for you and your family. If you have been struggling to maintain your home, seeking out a coach could be the best way to clear clutter and feel at home again.
Having an organizational system for your home and chores not only helps with a pleasant living environment, but it is also a good way to help minimize conflict with the other members of your family. Of course, not everyone may be on board with the organization, but it will be worth it in the end.
Business Leadership and Entrepreneurship
Running your own business or being in leadership in your field are rewarding yet challenging experiences. Whether it’s figuring out the finances or effective communication, a business coach can help you strategize and prioritize. Executive coaching can support creating an environment where your employees thrive, and the organizational results soar.
Any position of leadership will place burdens of responsibility. You may have difficulty setting boundaries or creating manageable expectations for your team. Perhaps you struggle with communication or don’t know where to focus first. A coach brings a valuable external perspective.
Whatever your career role and goals, working with a coach can provide you with support and resources to prevent burnout.
Financial Planning
Whether you are a young adult with your first job, a parent making plans for your children’s future, or thinking about your twilight years, there is a lot to be gained from working with a financial advisor. A financial coach could help you create a budget, plan for big financial goals, and teach you about investing. Being fiscally responsible is good for your personal life and any business ventures you may choose to pursue.
Planning for education, home ownership, and retirement with financial advice from coaches may be an excellent way to relieve a considerable amount of anxiety from your life.
Still not sure if coaching or counseling is what you need? Schedule an appointment today and discuss your goals and needs with a counselor who can help you decide what the best path is for your unique needs.
